Who knew of Seneca Village’s Location???
Seneca Village was located in what is known today as the Great Lawn of Central Park. It was a small Black owned community in the 1820’s, there are many stories about it, but like most Black successes, it was destroyed by others. This is another part of Black history in America. The Great Lawn today was once a great accomplishment for Black people in very trying times.
“Why Black History is Important” The Weeksville Society
How many in the Black Community have heard of the Black community that was called Weeksville. It is located in Brooklyn, New York City before the end of slavery in America. This is a story that should be told and is similar to Black Wall Street, but before it. This generation needs to know that they are capable of great things, just as the generations before them. Some of this place Still exist today and is called “The Weeksville Heritage Center”. This is a place for all Black Americans to be proud of in their struggle for true freedom.
A “When for the Black Community” The Harlem Renaissance
There has always been a struggle for Blacks to survive, since we were enslaved in America. The amazing part is we not only survived, we contributed and played a part in it’s greatness. We seasoned America, like food, with salt and pepper, to give it a flavor that made it unique throughout the world. The Harlem Renaissance will be remember for the changes this time period brought about, in all forms of American Life style. This youtube video, will give you a taste of that era.
