A What for the Black Community

What has always been the most important thing, to Black people in America? Would you agree with me if I said family? When Blacks speak of someone, they always mention the person and his family last name. Today the family that is in the headlines is the Carter’s, better known as Jay-Z and Beyonce. The family has increased with the birth of twins Sir and Rumi, a brother and sister for Blue Ivy. Career wise they have been outstanding in 2017 with two albums, Beyonce’s release of Lemonade and Jay-Z’s platinum 5day release of 4:44, not to mention rumors of a collaboration of this dynamic twosome in the near future.

A “Who” for the Black Community

Go to the website below for proof of what Black Writers have accomplished!!!

Who has the authority to proclaim a “Month”, to honor a certain group for their accomplishments? Well how about a Month to give recognition to the many great African American Writers. There are so many that should be remembered and those who are up and coming in the world today. We have many Black Museums in The United States of America, but there should be a National Library of African American Literature to house the works of these writers. If you google African American writers, there are so many names and books that are listed, back as far as the 1700’s. Who will take on this monumental task, to point out another achievement of Blacks since our being brought to this land. The name that comes to my mind is Oprah, but I don’t mean to put her on the spot, can anyone think of someone else? What about the Month of August “Black Writers Month”??? If we recognize twelve accomplishments, we will have “Black History Year”.

A “Why” for the Black Community

Why we should watch what we eat is explained very clearly in this post by Penny Dickerson.
I am a lover of Soul Food like everybody else, but we all need to listen to what this Sister has to say. Copy and paste the URL below into your browser and be informed on some of the changes we should make. She is not saying give up Soul Food, but to make a few adjustments.

Staying Connected

With the rise in social media and the technology that drives it, it has been my experience that people don’t seem to personally interface with each other like they did “back in the day”. Granted, in a mobile society such as ours many family members and friends are geographically separated, hence, the advantage of social media. I view a phone call more personable than an email.  I have an ex-boss who lives within a half-hour drive from me and what we do is try to have breakfast out about once every two months (laughing, talking on all subjects).

This is a fast-paced world we live in, we are all “penciled” in on a big roster, while we are here I believe we should take advantage of whatever time we have allotted to us. Social media is a great way to connect, but that “personal” touch is even better. Now, I shall practice my own beliefs and over the next 72 hours I will personally connect with someone. Maybe you can think of someone to personally connect with. Life is great, no matter how you look at it – enjoy!
