These sites are well worth visiting to keep up with events in our community. They tell our side of the story about concerns and accomplishments that are overlooked by others. There are more besides these but this is a good place to start.
It will be fifty years in October of 2018 that Tommie Smith stood on the podium after winning the 200 meter race in record time and a gold medal for the United States and raised his black glove covered fist. He was expelled from the games by the US Olympics committee for his actions. He basically did this to bring attention to the plight of Black people not only in America but throughout the world. Wikipedia has an article of his many accomplishments and awards granted him in later years. The Black community has very few ways of bringing attention to situations that affect them and a form of protest is one. It may not be accepted by some, but it is after all the American way.
There is nothing like half time at a HBCU football game. Here is one of the best bands that has performed for years “The Jackson State Sonic Boom”. If you have not gone too a game this year, take a look at this video, and then make plans if you are in the area of one of the many HBCU’s and join the fun!!!!
