“What Blacks did to defend The United States of America”

In Black History Month, we look back at the achievements of  the African American community.  The sacrifices and heroism is second to  none and seldom told of in the history books. How many know of the Tank battalion who lead the fight  in many battles in World War II and  were the first American soldiers seen by many Jews, when they were freed from concentration camps.  This is another story that is overlooked,  but we must make known to those who feel that Blacks are not worthy of the American dream.   There was also a Black supply outfit who were key to supplying the troops, in a segregated Armed Services at the time.

This is what Wikipedia has to say about their contribution

They were the point units for General George Patton’s invasion of  Germany.

They were supplied by another mostly Black Unit known as the Red Ball Express

Wikipedia had this to say about them.

The Red Ball Express was a famed truck convoy system that supplied Allied forces moving quickly through Europe after breaking out from the D-Day beaches in Normandy in 1944.[1] In order to expedite cargo to the front, trucks emblazoned with red balls followed a similarly marked route that had been closed to civilian traffic. These trucks were also given priority on regular roads.[citation needed]
The system originated in an urgent 36-hour meeting and began operating on August 25, 1944, staffed primarily with African-American soldiers.[2] At its peak, the Express operated 5,958 vehicles, and carried about 12,500 tons of supplies a day.[2] It ran for 83 days until November 16, when the port facilities at Antwerp, Belgium, were opened, enough French rail lines were repaired, and portable gasoline pipelines were deployed.

A “Who for the Black Community”

Black History Month Is Here Again!
Who remembers the quote by Fredrick Douglas “You have seen a man made a Slave, you will see a Slave made a Man”.
The African American story, is woven into the fabric of America, in  every part of it’s great accomplishments. Black History Month highlights some of the contributions made by this part of the American tapestry. When you look at  the trials and tribulations the Black community has been subjected too, some must wonder, how where they able to survive, much less, excel in so many areas.  The talent with in them when given a chance to come to life benefits all in so many ways. The few that have been recognized shows the high level that Blacks are able to rise too. Many who say “faith has been the cornerstone of their struggle” and that has shown them the way. It is also said, “The Truth Will Set You Free”.
