The first National American sport was horse racing, starting back in the 1700’s. The jockeys back then where mostly slaves and plantation owners had statues of them to promote the sport. One of the greatest was Isaac Burn Murphy, who rode in the late 1800’s, and won 3 Kentucky Derbies along with many other wins. He was the first Jockey to be inducted in the National Museum of Horse Racing Hall of Fame when it was created in 1955.
